TV, Books, Work, yadda, yadda, yadda

Ugh. I seem to be coming down with a cold. I'm congested and my throat is sore, and I had a terrible time getting out of bed this morning. If I don't feel better tomorrow, I'll probably take the day off from work.

Maybe I'm just sick because it was the Hated Holiday yesterday.

---

Work has been fairly lively so far. For one thing, Apple stock is up ten points! Woo-hoo! As I've been saying, if it's up over 150 a year from now, I may be able to afford to buy a house (or, rather, a condo). One of my cow-orkers predicts that we'll be over 200 by the end of the year. I think it's possible, but I'm not going to bet on it.

Today we had a meeting with our new boss, who's now running the QA slice of the WebObjects department. She outlined her expectations for the team, and talked about directions we'll be moving in for the next release. We're also going to be having a reorg soon, for a variety of reasons (most of them good ones, actually), and I'm hopeful that I'll be able to move out of cubeville soon. I actually have a pretty high tolerance for cubes, I think, but it seems that after a year I start getting itchy for an office; I get distracted and wish I could close my door to shut people out. Maybe I'll get my wish; we'll see!

We also played some foosball today. In the first match, I was terrible, making my usual mistakes, and we fell completely apart in the fifth and deciding game. On the other hand, I was on in the later match, blocking most of the shots by an opponent who is mostly much better than me, and scoring some nice shots of my own. We won running away, three games to none. It was very satisfying.

I finished reading Jack McDevitt's Infinity Beach last night. You can read my review, if you like, or just take my word that it's entertaining but nothing special. His second novel, A Talent for War, is very similar and much better.

I also caught up on some television, watching episodes of Sports Night and The West Wing from a few weeks ago, both of which were excellent. Indeed, it was probably the best episode of The West Wing I've yet seen; I'm glad I kept it in rotation. And Sports Night is still excellent. Such a clever show!

What else is there to mention? Not a lot, I guess. It's occurred to me that I haven't yet bought my off-season baseball books, such as the Baseball Prospectus yet. I should do that soon, perhaps in an Amazon order along with a couple of DC Comics Archive Editions which it turns out Amazon does carry, and at a nifty discount. Spiffy!

Trying to jump-start the forum a little bit, there's a topic there now on Homicide, if you'd like to contribute.
