StarcraftFest

Today I headed up to visit CJ and David. We went to lunch at Max's, a regional chain which serves pretty good food in very large portions, and is famous for their desserts. I got the soup and a half corned beef sandwich, which, combined with the sides which come with it, was plenty of food.

Afterwards we went back to their place to play Starcraft for pretty much the whole afternoon. The whole very hot afternoon. We baked. We didn't noticed, except when one of us got ousted from the game early, as I did in our first game. (I knocked down 45 pages of the Bujold book I'm reading while waiting for David and CJ to kill the computer players and each other.)

Playing against each other is so much more satisfying. I got to practice my use of the Protoss Arbiter unit in one game, and nearly defeated both David and CJ in the second game. I think if any one of about four things had gone my way, I would have won. However, CJ wore me down with overwhelming numbers (eventually), sad to say. I must start to be more intelligent about managing my forces.

In the evening we met up with one of CJ's cow-orkers, her SO, and another couple they'd brought with them, and went to an Italian restaurant in downtown Palo Alto. The food was good (huge quantities; the quality was not particularly notable, however. Frankie, Johnny and Luigi Too is IMO a better restaurant in terms of quality), and we had a good time chatting. I are too much, and was up too late, and got a little buzzed. But it was a good time.

Wonderfully absurd Web site of note: The Childcare Action Project and their ridiculous reviews of movies from a fundamentalist Christian standpoint. I don't really have anything to add to CJ's comments on the site and Scott Anderson's even more pointed comments.

Well, okay: Maybe that it's reassuring to know that there are still people living in the fifth century even today. Diversity, y'know.
