Struggle, Struggle

Lost in the morass of yesterday's job difficulties was the fact that I biked into work. I was considerably easier this time, despite a 3-week interval since my last effort. It took me a little over 35 minutes, with three short rest breaks (more effective ones than last time; I remained standing for each and walked around a little during them), and I got smart (again!) and did some stretches before I left. I almost feel like I'll soon be able to bike in on a daily basis. Regardless, I plan to try it again tomorrow.

I went to the comic book store after work, both yesterday and today (the latter to pick up some books which arrived late). It turns out that some of the stock they lost in the IRS event included some items I might have been interested in - mainly old issues not published by DC or Marvel. Oh, well. But I did pick up most of DC's reprint series of Neal Adams' run on Deadman, as well as some newer stuff.

The best of the new stuff is a DC title called Chronos, which has published about six issues. It's still finding its way, and there's clearly a lot going on that we don't yet know, but it's intelligent, written in a low-key manner, and is one of the few comics based on time-travel that properly restrains itself from going nuts with its premise in order to build an actual plot that isn't solved by a deus ex machina.

After the comics I got together with Karen and we went to Michael's Frozen Custard to talk, partly for me to bitch about work. It was nice to be able to talk - it was one of the better ones we've had lately.

Speaking of work, another urgent project came up today which I'll be spending some time on, but with my vacation coming up around the time it comes due it's unlikely I'll be able to see it through to the end - especially since I'll be spending a lot of time after work next week preparing for my trip. But at least I managed to clear my previous urgent project from my docket today.

At home tonight I spent a lot of time cleaning, since my apartment is still kind of messy and is fighting my efforts to organize it. Partly I have a whole bunch of junk lying around waiting to be read, or things I wanted to write something about, and a bunch of it I just need to toss - knowing that I'll never get to it - or shelve - knowing that it'll be a while before I read it. It's been hard finding time even to do that much, though.

Well, the weekend's almost here. It will be a slightly busy one, but mostly because I have some fun things planned - dinner tomorrow with a friend, and going to a Brewers game Saturday evening. Plus I need to write an APAzine.

There's too much in life to do!
