Zen Flesh, Zen Bones

Compiled by Paul Reps
Anchor Books, © 1961, 1989, ISBN #0-385-08130-8

This is a collection of anecdotes and writings from Zen Buddhism stretching back over a thousand years. I find Zen to be fascinating, in its own way, for the way it attempts to get at its points obliquely (Reps says in the introduction that if you can describe it, it's not Zen). Many Zen concepts dovetail neatly with some of the changes I've been trying to bring to my own way of thinking, such as trying to focus more on the process of progress and change rather than being totally goal-oriented. Although I'm not a spiritual person, Zen does give me some interesting things to think about. There are a lot of good little bits in here, though after a hundred pages or so it gets kind of repetitive.
