STACY DUTTON: Meet the Clearys, Patrick and Brenda. They have a serious problem in their basement. Though the rest of the house is fairly clean at all times, the house is rather small, so all unused items end up in the basement. This results in a lot of clutter.
Junk is piled everywhere. Though these pictures may not show it, the basement has been a disaster for a very long time. Many, many items were lost seemingly forever in this constant state of hoarding, and so, at 8:30am on President's Day, Brenda told Patrick, "It's time for a Clean Sweep!"
Patrick was a little hesitant at first, but once he got into the basement, all his organizational skills came into play, and he started seeing the basement in a whole new light. Things were stacked haphazardly, items weren't able to be found, unused items were kept for no reason. So he rolled up his sleeves, took two of the three rooms in the basement, and started in.
As you can see, the closets, once built to organize things, have become a mishmash of old and new, unused and useful, one type of item to another. There was no order, no system, nothing but a "pile" method to keep track of everything.
Every car resource known to mankind has been put onto shelves, even though the need for most of these items is no longer. Chris does not build cars in the driveway anymore. His friends don't come over to soup up hotrods, however:
...that did not keep him from storing, since around 1985, an engine from a 1976 AMC Javelin in the basement. It is not known if the engine works. It is not known if the engine matches any of the three Javelins Chris has hidden in various parts of Eastern Massachusetts. It is not known why an extra engine is so crucial.
