Available Light

Most of these shots were taken in my office building. I work in a prety funky building, constructed especially for the Consulting Company. this is one of the smaller areas where people can have lunch or an impromptu meeting. I think it's a nice shot because the small halogen lights above the table provide ample light, but still cast interesting shadows. I also like the pattern of the dowels in the chairs.

There are a lot of curved hallways and cubbies in the office. This area is on the third floor, with a lime-green partition wall in the middle. I like the depth in this picture, even though the subject matter (a wall and a glimpse of a kitchenette) is pretty dull.

This shot came out very clear, probably because I had the camera balanced on a railing on the third floor, pointed at the second floor. I like the crispness of the picture, with so much light to focus the eye on the pretty standard-issue ofice plants.

Some folks call these offices the "Dr. Seuss Offices," because the walls are all off-kilter. It's hard to get the right angle to show just how off-center everything is on this wall, but you get somewhat of an idea here. The light coming from inside the glass walls and outside them is about the same, which made for a decent picture.

This picture took me awhile to get right, because I only had about two seconds to snap it while the photocopier was running, and the no-light feature on my camera takes a shot that's about two seconds long. I finally got the timing right, and it came out pretty clear for a picture taken while scrambling around, pushing the "copy" button, then focusing, and snapping the picture. I seem to have a thing for blue or green lights in my pictures.

This is a shot of Mom's office at the lumberyard, taken from my car on the way home from work. You can't see in too well because of the angle, but I didn't really want an accurate glimpse into the office itself. Rather, I wanted to show a landmark on the way home when I drive at night. I always check into the office when I drive by. I don't know what I'd do if there suddenly was someone standing there.

This is another "on the way home" pictures. I see this store front every night I drive home from Laurie's house. They always have lights of some sort in the window, and it's a bright spot on a fairly dull stretch of road.

That's all I have. I've been snapping pictures like a madman, and at some point, I'll sit down with the manual and maybe a book on taking decent photographs, but I don't know if I want to get too involved in another way of expressing myself. Writing and acting are my main outlets; this is just fun right now, and I'd hate to spoil it by trying to make it "perfect" in some way.
