Date: Monday, December 13, 1999 20:23 Subject: alive and one of us not particularly well
During the flight from Chicago to London, Annette fell victim to some severe food poisoning likely caused by a dodgy quesadilla consumed on Sunday afternoon. It was pretty ugly. About two hours before landing the stewardess woke me up saying that my wife needed help, and I found her in the toilet slumped against the floor, semi-conscious, naked from the waist down, with the entire bathroom covered in liquid shit. Vomit and liquid shit fucking everywhere, basically. She had passed out, exploded, come to, then flailed about trying to clean herself while completely incapacitated by spasms and convulsions, and only succeeded in finger-painting everything in sight.
It's a nasty way to earn a free pair of British Airways pyjamas, four dozen washcloths, and a Body Shop toiletry kit, let me tell you. The BA staff were amazingly good, and have earned a thank-you card. They took one of our suitcases off during the transfer so she could change out of the PJs into some clean clothes, which made the rest of the trip to Berlin more bearable and certainly less embarrassing.
Ick. But she's fine now.
