I managed to catch up on my sleep this weekend. Ergo, I'm feeling much less infanticidal. Friday and Saturday nights I slept well. I rested; my energy recovered. We went for walks during the day, as long as the weather cooperated, cleaned the apartment, reduced entropy. Despite feeling like I might be catching a cold, I went out for three hours on the mountainbike, playing in the Grunewald on Sunday afternoon. Not a bad weekend. I feel much saner now.

Lessons learned: (1) I need to sleep well at least twice a week, or I'm in trouble; (2) I need to keep doing sports, despite fatigue, or I will go mental; (3) we should pay someone to clean the apartment.

So life with baby was pretty good this weekend - she was calm, behaved herself, did cute stuff from time to time, even let us sleep. But of course last night, knowing I had to get up for work on Monday morning, little Madeleine decided to be bitchy and not fall asleep. No gas - purely psychological warfare. At one, Annette departed for the living room, so that I wouldn't be up all night. At four, she returned, dead. I took the baby for a bit then gave her back to Annette because her behaviour suggested hunger (even though she'd been feeding on and off for most of the past three hours). The three of us are in bed, I'm trying to sleep, the baby is latched onto the mother. Then I hear this *glurp* noise and Madeleine has hurled a gutful of milk directly back onto the object that produced it. This isn't the first time she's launched stuff back into Annette's currently not-inconsiderable cleavage - if we're awake enough to find it funny, we call it the "cumshot". Last night it wasn't all that funny.

So I finally got some sleep and dragged my sorry ass into work this morning. Tired, with a raw throat. Now I have to get her a passport and deal with all kinds of shit. It's going to be a busy week but I know I have to keep skating and cycling or I'll be a very unhappy person.

Things I like about living here - winter sports on TV. Yesterday we had, at various times, luge, ski-jumping, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and speedskating. It's like having the winter olympics every weekend. No matter how obscure the sport, as long as it involves snow and ice, they'll televise it. Sure beats football.

What else? Pictures. Here's the assembled set:
