Gazing into the Abyss: Michael Rawdon's Journal

A Quick Update While I Think Of It

I'm maniacally busy lately, both at work and at home.

Home-work, of course, is due to the impending fantasy baseball draft day, preparation for which has occupied many of my evenings. It's fun, but it's also tiring, especially since I'm the league commissioner, which means I do a lot of the coordination for draft day, on top of getting ready to draft my own team.

Plus we have our book discussion group Sunday, so I had to finish up the book I was reading so I could plow through the book for the discussion. Yowza! I'm nearly done with the latter, though. Go me!

I've also found my groove again playing poker, and have kept playing Tuesday evenings. My overall record is back in the black, and I do feel like my game is getting stronger and that I'm becoming more aware of and comfortable with some of the nuances. I still do some little stupid things, but at least I'm not doing many big stupid things. If you win a couple of big pots you can lose a few and still come out well ahead.

We've been having a ridiculous amount of rain lately. You may have seen news reports of potential landslides and road closings around the Bay Area, if they got out to the national news. Fortunately I live on flat ground and not in a flood zone, so it hasn't been a worry for me, other than the sometimes-thicker traffic. We had a lovely sunny day today, but more rain is predicted for the weekend. The bad news aside, I'm enjoying the rainy season while it lasts, since once it clears out it will be Eternal Summer for seven months. Which is nice for about five months.

So life is good. Just very, very busy. I'm looking forward to next week when I can take Quake 4 out for a test-drive.

Mmm. Killing virtual things. Mmm.
