Gazing into the Abyss: Michael Rawdon's Journal

Litany

A litany of things I did this weekend, some of them on Saturday while Debbi was off at a scrapbooking event:

  • Cleaned my dining table and coffee table.
  • Went to Costco. Bought cereal, Arizona iced tea, and AOSept.
  • Went by Lee's Comics for their latest sale, although I didn't find anything. Lee's mainly stocks paperback and hardcover collections, and they only discount them by 10% at their sales. Since my regular comics shop gives me a 20% discount on everything (as a subscriber), this means I usually don't buy much at Lee's sales unless I happen to find something I can't find elsewhere. That said, I was tempted by some of their nice-condition early John Byrne Fantastic Four issues, but I decided against.
  • Bought some pumpkins. Also bought some indian corn. My Mom's had a little bunch of indian corn for years, which she's put on her front door around this time of year. Since the pumpkin patch I went to had some, I picked out a trio for myself.
  • Went to the coffee shop and did some writing.
  • Potted two plants which have been sitting on my patio for weeks (maybe months) waiting to be potted.
  • Trimmed many plants on my porch.
  • Checked my work e-mail for any late-breaking emergencies. There didn't seem to be anything requiring weekend attention - thank goodness.
  • Watched the Chicago White Sox beat the Houston Astros in the first two games of the World Series.
  • Rearranged my paperback bookcases - mainly by actually moving them around in my dining room.
  • Carved a jack-o-lantern. I'm hoping it will survive until Halloween next month.
  • Went to dinner at Su Hong, and dessert at Cafe Borrone. Also dinner at Amici's (having eaten nothing but cereal and coffee today - we just forgot to eat lunch!).
  • Won a few eBay auctions. (Still need to pack and ship a couple of auctions of comics I sold a week-plus ago.)
  • Got about half-way through the final volume of The Complete Calvin and Hobbes.
Sadly, one thing I didn't accomplish was ordering a birthday present for my sister, as she and my mother have their birthday coming up in just a couple of days (happy birthday!). Bad Michael! Actually, I have been looking, but it seemed like the best things I found were all on backorder or out-of-stock. So I may end up getting a couple of things and letting her know one of them will be late (and the other will be, uh, less late). Sigh.

Late October is the unofficial start of the holidays as far as I'm concerned concerned: Two birthdays now, then Halloween, than Thanksgiving, then Christmas and New Year's, then my birthday, and then my dad's birthday in February and finally we can all collapse from holiday exhaustion. (Debbi's birthday is in May, which is long enough to have recovered from all the other goings-on.) Sometimes we cram a trip to Disneyland or somewhere else (Las Vegas?) in there, so just busy-busy-busy!
