Gazing into the Abyss: Michael Rawdon's Journal

Something About Spring

The warm weather this weekend - and it's supposed to be in the 70s for the whole week - has also brought out all the smells of spring in the Bay Area. Flowing trees, fragrant plants, warm breezes, it's the weather which reminds me why I moved here. (Well, other than that other reason.)

This morning I went jogging for the third day in a row. It was tough. My new sneakers do a great job of absorbing the shock, but I think three days in a row was a little too much for my shins, which were starting to smart by the time I finished today. So tomorrow's a day off from jogging, although I might go for a morning walk instead. And then Wednesday is ultimate, which will probably leave me in no shape for jogging on Thursday (and maybe not much shape for walking, either). But maybe Friday I'll jog again. Of course, 2+ hours of frisbee is plenty of exercise for a three-day span.

I really need to finally buy some biking shoes so I can start biking again in earnest. Sneakers just aren't cutting it anymore for biking the distances I ride these days.

Heck, I need to buy some new sandals, too, since my Mephistos have just about given up the ghost after 3 years. It's hard to find Mephistos I like in stores around here, so I may need to try some on and find my size, and then order from an on-line merchant. Got a letter in the mail today summoning me for jury duty in a month. That's actually as good a time as any for jury duty for me - just after our fantasy baseball draft, and otherwise not too close to any deadlines. So I probably won't use my one free "push it back a month" call which the county lets me take. I haven't been called to jury duty in several years, and didn't actually serve the first time. We'll see what happens this time around.

Wow, after 10:00 already? Where did the evening go? Oh yeah, I was at work until after 7. Sheesh.

For some reason someone in the apartment down the alley across the street is running a strobe light in his living room. No idea why. Weird to see it out of the corner of my eye, though.

I've been reconfiguring my spam filter recently. Going through my spam tonight (only takes a few minutes to go through hundreds of messages - soon I won't have to go through it at all once it's trained) I notice a strange new trend: In addition to the porn spam, mortgage spam, and the hundreds of "companies" who claim to be blocking my PayPal account (ha), I'm getting a lot of spam from companies trying to sell me housewares. Coffee makers, linens, bath items, Starbucks gift cards, wine, and kitchen accessories. Strangely innocuous, as spam goes.

CONGRATULATION!!!!

Those spammers. Gotta love 'em.

(I'm nearly impervious to regular advertising; I'm an especially lousy mark for spammers.)
