Gazing into the Abyss: Michael Rawdon's Journal

Refinancing Already?

The run-up to my Dad's visit has been more hectic than expected.

Cleaning, I had expected. My Dad is allergic to animals - some more than others. He's not like, say, Subrata, who will pretty much die if he's around animals too long, but he's got 'em. So that meant sweeping and mopping my tile floors, vacuuming all my carpets, washing various blankets around the house, and thoroughly cleaning my study, where he'll be sleeping.

The main wrench in the works is that I was contacted on Monday by my mortgage broker, who informed me that even though I only closed on my house ten months ago, mortgage rates have fallen so low that it's worth it to refinance. Better yet, I've built up enough equity in my house - through my monthly payments - to include the closing costs of refinancing in my new mortgage. So although not exactly "free", it's a relatively painless process.

Relatively. It's involved some phone calls, gathering of information to send to my broker, and other coordination. So it takes some time. But the saving are large enough to be worth it. All-in-all, I think it will be a good thing once it's done.

Lastly, I had to spend time writing my (sort of) long-awaited Worldcon entry, so if you haven't read it already, please go do so!

I mean, if you care, that is!

Anyway, my house is now more clean than it's ever been (I've finally filed nearly all the loose papers which have been sitting in my study more-or-less since I unpacked), and I'm reducing my monthly mortgage payments. And, my Dad's coming to visit! Worth all the effort, I tell you. Worth it all.
