Gazing into the Abyss: Michael Rawdon's Journal

Zero Bugs

News Flash: Red Sox take 3 out of 4 games from the New Yank Yorkies in Boston! The Sox have the best pitching in baseball to this point by a very wide margin; nearly everyone's pitching like Pedro Martinez. Our offense is weak (since All-Star shortstop Nomar Garciaparra is likely out until at least mid-season recovering from wrist surgery), but we're scraping out wins anyway.

Weak offense? Scraping out wins? Well, okay, tonight for good measure the Sox beat up on the hapless Devil Rays, 10-0. If we can split the season series with the Yorkies, come out ahead against Toronto, and pound Baltimore and Tampa into the ground, then we should have an excellent chance of winning our division.

Come back soon, Nomar!

I'm pleased to report that as of the end of today's work day, I have zero outstanding bugs for our current release.

I expect that to change tomorrow (there's one bug out there that I expect will be assigned to me), but otherwise things are looking good.

After work I stopped off at department store retailer Mervyn's to buy some clothes. They're having "cardholder appreciation week" so I got an extra 10% off.

And actually in a strange twist I got more than that: They had the shorts I wanted on two different racks, one marked at 30% off, and the other not. I figured that they'd just over-ordered on some colors and discounted them, so I grabbed some of the discounted ones. But they weren't discounted in their computer, so I pointed this out to the cashier. She gave me the discounted price, and said she'd be changing that sign right after she'd finished with me.

Little wins like that always give you a little lift, don't they?

News Flash: San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds just became the 17th hitter in Major League history to hit 500 career home runs. He hit a 2-run homer into McCovey Cove in San Francisco Bay which put the Giants up 3-2 against their arch-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Could it be any better?
