Gazing into the Abyss: Michael Rawdon's Journal

Unexpected Visitors

The kitties and I had some visitors tonight.

I've spent a bunch of the evening at my computer working on a new project for my Web page, and I eventually realized that the strange sound I was sometimes hearing from the living room was one of my cats making a low growling sound. I finally went out and saw Newton sitting on the floor looking at Jefferson, who in turn was looking out the window.

I pulled back the shade and saw a long-haired, black-and-white cat sitting at the top of the stairs.

I grabbed my keys and went outside to see it. It immediately started walking down the stairs, where there was a second cat - a big orange tabby - sitting. They'd just been sitting there watching each other.

I followed them down the stairs, but both of them walked away, the tabby rather quickly, and long-hair slowly and calmly (but just fast enough to stay ahead of me).

I gave up and went back inside, and five minutes later Jefferson was growling again. This time at the orange tabby sitting at the top of the stairs.

My cats get along pretty well with other cats, all things considered. I think what Jeff really wants is to go out and play with them.
