Weight Training

This afternoon John and I went to the fitness center, and he gave me his take on the whole weight training thing. Which was not that different from Leslie's, yesterday, except that we also worked to figure out some good weights for me to start with, and stretches to do along with the exercises. And, I actually got on the weight machines. We were there about an hour and a half, and I used about 12 machines. This evening, I can certainly feel that I worked out; I have some lightly sore muscles in both my arms and legs. Wonder how it'll feel tomorrow?

So, I'm hoping to work out three times a week, doing the weight program and then probably half an hour of aerobic exercise after that. That will probably be a good start, especially if I add biking at some point, as well. John and I will probably work out together, as I mentioned, although I suspect we may differ as to our preferred times to work out at times. I will probably try different times, although right now my inclination is to go in the morning. John's seems to be to go in mid-to-late afternoon. Well, we'll see.

I also need to get a better bag to carry my workout clothes in, and also to get some better shorts for working out, since my everyday shorts probably won't cut it. Maybe I'll tackle that this weekend.

Geez, I feel like such a yuppie!

A light comics haul today, owing to the holiday on Monday. I guess more stuff comes out tomorrow.

James Robinson's Starman is starting to wear out its welcome, especially with this endless and often pointless "To The Stars" sequence, which is so obviously emulating the endless and equally pointless space story in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing back in the 80s. It's even got the "blue planet" and Adam Strange stories! At least it looks like things are coming to a head. Starman has had some great issues, especially the "Sand and Stars" story from about three years ago, but I find the disjointed manner of storytelling that Robinson employs to be quite impersonal at times. Plus, the over-eloquent writing he uses when Jack tries to describe his feelings or reactions just doesn't ring true to me.

Alan Moore has started yet another new series, this one called Promethea, about a heroine of the imagination, which takes place probably 50 years from now or so. A good first issue; we'll see where it goes.

Watched some baseball tonight while reading the comics. The Indians took 2 of 3 from the Yorkies (woo-hoo!), though sadly it seems Detroit managed to beat the Red Sox today. And right now the Mariners seem to be ekeing out a win over the Orioles, thanks to a 2-run double by Ken Griffey, Jr.

And my fantasy team seems to be having a good week so far.
